The Business Case for Breastfeeding Training in Washington State

Background: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) launched this major national initiative in 2008. ‘The Business Case’ is designed to improve worksite support for breastfeeding women. The program is supported by the HHS Office on Women’s Health and materials can be found at the National Women’s Health Information Center.

Washington State was one of 30 states accepted to participate in training. The training equips lactation educators and community partners with skills needed to effectively reach employers and encourage them to establish, maintain, and expand programs to enable breastfeeding employees to continue breastfeeding when they return to work.
